ODM treasurer, Timothy Bosire asks Raila to vie for presidency in 2027
ODM National Treasurer Timothy Bosire on Friday, May 2, 2025, implored former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to take a stab at the 2027 presidential elections.
Speaking at the funeral of the late Dr. Francis Ngaru, husband of Mumbi Ngaru (former Thika Mayor), Bosire noted that Raila could stand a chance of being the sixth president due to prevailing political conditions.
Timothy Bosire, who made headlines after declining President William Ruto’s appointment as the non-executive chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) board, argued that Raila would make a great president who would turn around the country’s fortunes.
“I have walked this journey with Raila Amollo Odinga, a man of great character and nature who can provide the required leadership in this country. But because of small attitudes, we are where we are. This is a great man who could have made a difference in this country, and I am making this statement fully aware that I am in the region (Mt Kenya region) which has had an interesting attitude when we are electing national leaders,” Bosire stated.

“Your excellency, this region, which you have visited many times, this time around they have learnt a lesson that if you around to look for votes, I am sure they will vote for you without looking back. Given the lessons they have learnt, the future is likely to be brighter and when I am saying so, I have the belief that you are coming again as the presidential candidate in the next elections. Kenyans are thinking about you again,” Bosire added.
Speaking at the same funeral, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris downplayed calls for Raila to vie for presidency.
Instead, Passaris asked leaders not to pressure Raila about 2027 but allow him to focus on stabilising the country through the broad-based government arrangement.
“Let us not pressure him. Let Raila lead us, not us lead him,” Passaris insisted.
By the time of the press, Raila had not responded to Bosire’s request.
President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria, on his side, praised Raila, arguing that he was a strategic leader.
He, however, shied away from the 2027 succession politics.
