Homa Bay, Nyanza is an ODM zone - Gladys Wanga warns Ruto's UDA party
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has issued a warning to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, declaring that the Nyanza region remains a stronghold of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking on Saturday, May 3, Wanga suggested that any attempts by UDA to make political inroads into the Nyanza region would be met with strong resistance.
“As the national chairman of the ODM party, I want to make it very clear that Homa Bay County and the entire Nyanza region is an ODM zone. The next time I see people in this region shouting ‘UDA’, we will not agree; we will not accept. It will not happen under my watch as the national chairman of the ODM party,” she said.
Wanga’s remarks come about two weeks after Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang said the ODM party will be on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Sunday, April 20, Kajwang said that building a political movement like ODM is not a simple task, and that the party will continue to participate in elections.
He emphasized that political parties should focus on policies and ideologies to improve the lives of citizens.

“One thing must be made clear: that to build a political movement of the stature and nature of ODM is no mean task, and therefore ODM shall be on the ballot in 2027.
“Political parties are formed so that people can compete on the basis of policies and ideologies, and the person with the best ideology carries the day and implements them for the betterment of the people,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Wanga also declared that the ODM party is preparing to capture power in the 2027 General Elections.
She lauded the party for how it conducted its grassroots elections, stating that a party eyeing power must be organized and vibrant.
“That is what, that is what we were looking for. I want to say that with these grassroots elections, ODM is preparing to capture power in 2027 because the purpose of any political party is to capture power. For us to capture power, we have to be organized and vibrant at the very grassroots level where we come from,” she said.
