Homa Bay is not open to every political party because we are in broad-based gov’t – MP Kaluma

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has said that being part of the broad-based government does not mean Homa Bay is open to all political parties.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has said that being part of the broad-based government does not mean Homa Bay is open to all political parties.
Speaking during slain Kasipul MP Charles Were’s funeral on Friday, May 9, Kaluma stated clearly that Homa Bay remains an ODM stronghold and should be treated as such.
“Some people think when we are in the broad-based government, this area is open to every political party. We are in the broad-based government but Homa Bay County in particular is an ODM zone and it must be respected,” he said.
Kaluma’s remarks were echoed by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ who also asked other leaders to respect ODM’s presence in the region.
“We are asking our colleagues, we will have a by-election here, and this was an ODM zone, we are just asking for a bit of respect. If there is a by-election in Eldoret, Baringo, or Soi, we are not going to waste our time sending all ODM candidates there because you respect William Ruto.

“We are also asking him to rein in his proxies who are troubling us on the ground,” he stated.
The remarks come barely a week after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga issued a warning to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, declaring that the Nyanza region remains a stronghold of ODM.
Speaking on Saturday, May 3, Wanga suggested that any attempts by UDA to make political inroads into the Nyanza region would be met with strong resistance.
“As the national chairman of the ODM party, I want to make it very clear that Homa Bay County and the entire Nyanza region is an ODM zone.
“The next time I see people in this region shouting ‘UDA’, we will not agree; we will not accept. It will not happen under my watch as the national chairman of the ODM party,” she said.
