Gunshots fired after goons stormed Gachagua’s Party launch

Chaos ensued at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party launch in Lavington, Nairobi County, after suspected goons attempted to interfere with the events.

Tension gripped the launch of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s new political party after gunshots were fired at the venue.

According to reports, the commotion began when a group of individuals attempted to force their way into the event.

In response, a man believed to be part of Gachagua’s security team, dressed in a black suit, drew a firearm and discharged several shots into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

The incident occurred shortly after Gachagua and his entourage had exited the venue, narrowly missing the unfolding chaos.

The swift response from security personnel prevented the situation from escalating further, as calm was restored within five minutes of the shots being fired.

Gachagua officially launched his new political party, Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP), on Thursday, May 15, at its headquarters along Musa Gitau Road in Lavington.

DCP will be represented by neon green and white colours — a symbol, Gachagua said, of renewal, transparency, and inclusivity.

“I made a promise to you that in the month of May, I would unveil a new political party whose philosophy resonates with you. As you all know, I’m a truthful and honest man; I keep my promises. We finally have a political party that belongs to all of us, where every Kenyan is treated equally,” he said.

Positioning DCP as a people-first political formation, Gachagua outlined the party’s core principle: genuine and sustained engagement between leaders and citizens.

He promised that under the party’s leadership, Kenyans would at no point feel abandoned or left out.

“As a party, we believe every Kenyan should be listened to by their leaders. This listening must not just be listening for the sake of it; it must be deliberate, planned, have a purpose, and it must be sustainable. At no given time in our leadership shall Kenyans be left behind or remain unheard,” he added.
