Chelsea Captain Cesar Azpilicueta Sends Todd Boehly Message After Disappointing Draw

Chelsea Captain Cesar Azpilicueta Sends Todd Boehly Message After Being Held To a Disappointing Draw by Wolves.

Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta has sent a message to Todd Boehly as he admitted the team was ‘disappointed’ not to gift their soon-to-be new owner a first win.

César Azpilicueta struggled to keep up with the pace in Saturday’s fixture against Wolves.

Todd Boehly is the now Chelsea owner after he agreed a £4.25billion deal to purchase the club, although the UK Government and Premier League must first give the green light to this transaction.

And hours after the statement was released, just as he did against Real Madrid, LA Dodgers co-owner Boehly attended a Chelsea game and was animated throughout as he had to endure Chelsea dropping more unnecessary points in the Premier League after a late collapse to Tony Roberts’ dangerous Wolves side.

However, he got a first-hand reality check of the significant investment needed if they are to compete at the level of Liverpool and Man City next season.

Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to be part of the Boehly era alongside the outgoing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

The Spaniard received a lot of criticism on social media for his poor defensive display, with some demanding he waves adios sooner rather than later and the 32-year-old was under no illusion of the disappointing feeling the new elect owner would have felt watching on from the directors’ box.

“The team has been completely out of the process,” Azpilicueta told Sky Sports regarding the players’ involvement in the takeover situation.

“Our focus has been on the pitch. Of course, we are disappointed not to give the first win for him. It is out of our hands so not worth wasting energy on that.”

He then added on what both his own and his teammates’ jobs have been during this whole process: “Of course, we’ve missed some fans in the stadium and there have been a couple of things but the work on the pitch cannot be excused. Our job is to train the best we can and get the results so that is why we’re disappointed.”
