Rabai MP William Kamoti dies shortly after IEBC clearance in a road accident on the Mombasa-Malindi highway.
Rabai Member of Parliament William Kamoti died in a road accident on the Mombasa-Malindi route on Sunday night, May 29.
William Kamoti was seeking to run for re-election on an ODM ticket.
The MP died immediately after presenting his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, according to a statement released by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) (IEBC).
The driver of Kamoti suffered injuries and was transferred to Kilifi County Hospital, according to local officials.
Kamoti was heading home shortly after IEBC clearance, according to Kilifi County OCPD Jonathan Koech.

According to the Kilifi county police chief, Kamoti’s car crashed into a ditch after swerving to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck.
Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi praised the MP as an exceptional leader who will be remembered for his leadership style.

“Hon. Kamoti will be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style which saw him earn admiration from many people beyond his constituency and also enabled him to achieve a lot for the people of Rabai Constituency.
“Indeed as a county, we have lost a devoted and hardworking leader,” Kingi stated.
Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire noted that Kamoti was in constant communication with the ODM team as he presented his documents.
“The death has hit us hard. Kamoti was one of the most aggressive ODM leaders in Kilifi and it is a huge loss,” he noted.
Kamoti was first elected to represent Rabai constituency in 2013, which had been created under the new constitution.
