ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga, MPs Otiende Amolo (Rarieda) and Babu Owino (Embakasi East), on Saturday visited the Dari Business Park premises in support of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju.

The leaders expressed concern over the continued police presence at the facility owned by the ex-Minister and called on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to review the deployment.

Addressing the media at the gate of the multi-billion business park, Otiende described the presence of officers without a court order as a matter needing clarification.

“We have come here in support of Tuju. He is not just my predecessor but also from my constituency. I am his lawyer,” Otiende said.

“Whatever decision the court makes, we will respect. In the meantime, there is no order authorising police presence here.”

“When there is no such order, it leaves the owner with limited options. I want to appeal to the police to follow the proper procedures until a court order is issued.” He added that such situations could lead to confusion.

Babu raised concerns about the early-morning deployment of officers and said he was there to show support for Tuju.

“I am here in support of Tuju. Whatever he is experiencing is concerning. Disputes should be resolved through appropriate channels,” Babu said.

Wanga did not address the media.

The politicians were joined by Safina Party Leader Jimmy Wanjigi and law professor PLO Lumumba.

Wanjigi described the presence of police at Tuju’s premises as disproportionate to the matter at hand.

“Tuju has expressed concerns about the handling of the situation,” Wanjigi said. “The level of police presence over this matter appears excessive. We are here to support him.”

Tuju, who also spoke to the media, said the situation had affected operations at the facility.

“Some tenants have been unable to access their units. Businesses that rely on weekend trade are impacted,” Tuju said.

“I am seeking clarity on the procedures being followed. There has been no court order permitting these actions.”
