“Don’t put a moral bar you can’t get to,” Kibicho criticizes Ruto over the NIS report

Kibicho criticizes Ruto over the National Intelligence Service (NIS) report on election data ahead of the August election.

Deputy President William Ruto has been at war with the Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho over the NIS report on presidential opinion polls.

Kibicho has claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga would win the August 9 polls by 60 percent according to the NIS report.

His statement did not sit well with William Ruto, who claimed to have intelligence reports suggesting his coalition, Kenya Kwanza was ahead of Azimio by 8 percent.

Dp Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party wrote to the NIS asking them to make public the report that government officials were using to predict Raila’s win.

In the letter, UDA argued that the NIS was obligated to make the report public as they are financed by the taxpayer’s money.

“The utterances are of grave concern to our client considering that the source of such information has been attributed to NIS reports by none other than the Interior PS who sits in the National Security Council.

“It is the DG’s obligation to ensure that NIS reports underwritten by public funds serve the national interest and promote national security and are therefore kept confidential,” UDA protested in a letter.

Kibicho criticizes Ruto over NIS report

Interior PS, Karanja Kibicho has now criticized Deputy President William Ruto for writing to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) demanding intelligence reports that showed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga would win the August 9 polls by 60 percent.

Kibicho defended his 60% remarks in Kirinyaga county on Friday, June 10, stressing that the intelligence assessments he was referring to were genuine.

He stated that he obtains intelligence from a variety of sources, not just the NIS and that he would offer proof if necessary.

“I have many sources where I get information, not only from the NIS. I have so much confidential information and if asked to give it out for the sake of the public well-being, I’m in a position to do so.

“Therefore, the information we give is grounded on truth and not for the sake of impressing,” he stated.

Kibicho accused Ruto of double speaking while referring to his sentiments when he stated that he also had intelligence reports that showed he was leading by 8 percent.

“We usually say that when you point at someone, three fingers point at you. Let him ask himself which report he was using to state that he was ahead by 8 percent. Which right does he have that we don’t?

“People need to be ashamed. Do not put a moral bar which you cannot even get to.”
