Charity Ngilu reveals why she bolted out of Kitui gubernatorial race
Charity Ngilu reveals why she bolted out of Kitui gubernatorial race, just days to the August general elections.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has revealed why she backed down her reelection bid for Kitui governorship.
Ngilu’s decision to quit the race was made public by Azimio presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, during his tour in Kitui county.
“You will decide between former governor Julius Malombe and former Senator David Musila who will be your governor. I want to take mama to Nairobi,” Raila stated.
Ngilu stepped down in favour of Wiper candidate, Dr. Julius Malombe, who will fight against Jonathan Mueke of UDA and David Musila of Jubilee for the county top seat.
Charity Ngilu speaks
Ngilu stated during the inauguration of the Digital Mission for Ushanga Kenya on Friday, June 17, that after more than 30 years in active politics, she has reached a stage where she needs to start cultivating a new generation of women leaders in Kenya.
She stated that entering national politics will provide her an advantage in advocating for women’s empowerment, an opportunity she would not have had as a governor.
“I stepped down because I want to support women on a national level,” Ngilu explained.
“Remember I have been in the leadership position for over 30 years, it is now time to move forward and give young women a chance and also be part and parcel of the building of their capacity.
“This cannot just be announced that I’m exiting, you have to call people and prepare and they bless me and they tell me go on. So I can’t make a decision like this alone,” Ngilu explained.
However, the Kitui governor and former Water Minister did not reveal the position she will be offered in the Azimio government.
