Frenkie de Jong rejects Man United transfer, it’s his final decision
Frenkie de Jong rejects Manchester United transfer, opting to stay at Barcelona, nailing Erik ten Hag hopes.
Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has made a final decision on his future, rejecting an offer to move to the Premier League side, Manchester United.
Manchester United are in need of new midfield recruits after Paul Pogba left on a free transfer.
Frenkie de Jong has been Erik ten Hag’s top transfer target ever since he took on the role to become United’s latest manager.
However, despite Ten Hag trying to lure De Jong to Old Trafford, Mundo Deportivo states the 25-year-old has rejected the switch.
The news will come as a hammer blow to Ten Hag and United who will be forced to look elsewhere.
The report adds that De Jong is very happy at Barca, especially after he recently got engaged to long-term partner Mikky Kiemeney.
The duo also look set to open a business’ in Pedralbes, Catalonia, which gives the Dutchman even more reason to stay.
The thought of leaving Barcelona doesn’t even ‘enter De Jong’s mind’ such is his determination to stay and fight for his place.
There could still be a twist in the tale, however, and it concerns Barca’s financial woes.
De Jong and his camp are reportedly aware of Barcelona’s intentions to re-negotiate his salary as they look to balance their finances.
And all signs presently point to him staying, rather than moving to United.
