Rio Ferdinand offers prediction on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future as he admits the Portugal star has also his personal issues.
Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at Manchester United this summer, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand, in a video interview with FIVE, predicts that Ronaldo will stay at Manchester United because the team can’t bear to lose him.
In spite of continuous rumors that Ronaldo would depart, Ferdinand thinks the superstar will stay at this point in the transfer window.
Ronaldo played 45 minutes in United’s final preseason match against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
Rio Ferdinand prediction on Ronaldo’s future
Ferdinand believes Manchester United will stick to their guns and keep his former teammate at Old Trafford for the final year of his contract.
He said: “Man United can’t afford to let him go. That’s the problem.
“Say we believe the reports, and you have to respect he’s had some issues personally, where does Man United find 20 goals now, in the transfer market?
“The only reason Man United doesn’t let Cristiano Ronaldo go now is that there will be a void of 20 plus goals in the team. You can’t just let that walk out the door with no reinforcements in place.”
The former United defender expressed skepticism that Anthony Martial will be able to lead the line effectively in Ronaldo’s absence.
In seven seasons at the club, he has scored more than 20 just once, and last season netted just twice.
He said: “Martial coming back, yeah but he’s still got a lot to prove. We’re in pre-season. The front line looks good and lively, let’s get back to the season when the pressures are on, I want to see the same. Then I’ll start saying yes, get out the contracts.”
It is only one month remains for Manchester United to decide on Ronaldo and to sign one or more replacements.
Although Ferdinand made a forecast, the outcome is still uncertain.
