Ruto sets conditions to accept Raila’s proposal after the August elections

Ruto sets conditions to accept Raila’s proposal to reach out to all presidential candidates after the August elections.

Deputy President William Ruto has responded to Raila’s pledge to reach out to all presidential candidates to unite the nation after the August 9 polls, irrespective of the winner.

In his speech at Azimio La Umoja’s final rally at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday, August 6, Raila stated that he will reach out to William Ruto, George Wajackoyah, and David Mwaure, whether he wins the elections or not.

“We are soon entering Canaan and in Canaan, we must embrace reconciliation. In my government there will be no revenge, I pledge to be the president of all,” Raila stated.

“I want to assure Kenyans that I will continue with this handshake doctrine for the sake of Kenya. I will shake the hand if I win and I will shake the hand if I don’t and I will do it because I love Kenya more than I love Raila Odinga,” he asserted.

Ruto responds to Raila’s proposal, setting conditions

In his speech at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, August 9, Ruto urged Raila Odinga to accept defeat in the event he loses.

“I will call my brother Raila for tea but I will not repeat what happened five years ago. Combining opposition and the government to create something unknown that did not benefit the nation,” Ruto stated in reference to a handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila.

He maintained that Uhuru-Raila’s agreement derailed the Big 4 Agenda and other development projects.

Ruto also blamed the two for the increasing cost of living claiming that inviting opposition into the government necessitated graft and state capture.
