Transition of power taking shape as Ruto makes his nomination to the committee

Transition of power to the next administration taking shape as Ruto makes his nomination to the committee mandated to oversee the transfer of power.

Deputy President William Ruto has embarked on plans to facilitate a smooth transition of power after he was declared the President-elect.

William Ruto has nominated a three-member team to represent him in the Assumption of the Office of President Committee led by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

The nominated members comprise former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Uasin Gishu woman representative-elect Gladys Shollei, and United Democratic Alliance’s secretary general, Veronica Maina who were active in the campaigns.

Justin Muturi, the outgoing National Assembly Speaker and Democratic Alliance party leader.

Shollei also played a substantial role in Ruto’s election. The former Registrar of the Judiciary was among Kenya Kwanza’s agents at the Bomas of Kenya national tallying centre.

Veronica Maina is UDA secretary general and played a leading role in Ruto’s campaign since the inception of the party.

The team will participate in the committee, which will be chaired by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

A Parliamentary Act created the Assumption of the Office of the presidential committee, whose job it is to plan the ceremony and process for the transition of power.

Among its members are the secretary to the cabinet, the Chief of Defence Forces, and the interior cabinet secretary.

The committee works to guarantee that the program for the swearing-in ceremony is thoroughly planned in advance in addition to ensuring that the security arrangements for the President-elect are established.

The special committee has been convening meetings ahead of the Constitution’s set date of handing over of power.

However, the committee will be put on hold if the Azimio leader files a petition at the Supreme Court.

The court has 14 days to hear and make a determination.

The Supreme court judges can either throw the petition based on the evidence or nullify the election and order a repeat election within 60 days.
