Former Attorney Githu Muigai to represent split IEBC at the Supreme Court battle

Former Attorney Githu Muigai to represent split IEBC at the Supreme Court case challenging the presidential results.

In the anticipated presidential election petition to be filed by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, former attorney Prof. Githu Muigai will head a formidable team of more than ten experienced attorneys to defend the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and its chairman Wafula Chebukati.

According to reports, former attorney Githu Muigai will be working with lawyers Kamau Karori, Abdikadir Mohamed, Eric Gumbo, Wambua Kilonzo, Peter Wanyama, George Murugu, Mahat Somane, Cyprian Wekesa, and Edwin Mukele.

The team will be assisted by more than 10 other lawyers in research and documentation.

The Azimio legal team has been working on their petition, which needs to be filled at the Supreme Court by Monday at 2 p.m.

According to the Azimio team, there was a lot of evidence that shows Ruto’s victory was unfair and that there were various irregularities and illegalities.

The Azimio side has also charged Mr. Chebukati with influencing the outcomes in the DP’s favor.

The results announced by Mr. Chebukati were also rejected by four of the seven IEBC commissioners.

The four are vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, and Francis Wanderi.

Prof Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu are on Mr Chebukati’s side.

It is the first time the commission will be approaching the Supreme Court petition divided and literally reading from different scripts.

The IEBC team is preparing for a bruising battle as the nullification of the result will make Wafula Chebukati have the dubious record of bungling two presidential elections in a row after the 2017 one was nullified.
