Azimio allied MCAs left out during Johnson Sakaja’s Swearing-in
Azimio allied MCAs were left out of programme during Johnson Sakaja’s Swearing-in as Nairobi’s fourth county governor.
A group of MCAs allied to the Azimio Coalition Party left Johnson Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony as Nairobi’s fourth county governor.
Robert Alai, the elected MCA for Kileleshwa, claimed that the MCAs affiliated with Azimio were compelled to leave the event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) after realizing no seats were set aside for them.
Alai elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket said they had been invited to grace the event.
“We were invited to attend Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony and so we attended, but there were no seats for us. So, we have been forced to leave,” said Alai. He went on: “Imagine swearing in the President without the MPs getting seats. We were over 25. Out of the 45 Azimio MCAs. But we want to assure him (Sakaja) that as Azimio MCAs, we are ready to support him.”
Speaking after being sworn in, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said he is ready to move Nairobi forward as he takes office.
He noted that the time for election and campaign is over and it was time to work.
“It is time to give Nairobi the honour it deserves as a city of dignity and order,” Sakaja added.
The former senator said he will be a legacy as he aims at making his manifesto a reality.
He acknowledged his competitors, in particular Polycarp Igathe, for keeping up a good fight in the race.
“Thank you Polycarp Igathe for living the phrase siasa safi,” he said.
