Brian Odhiambo mother demands release of son’s body after it was allegedly found floating in Lake Nakuru.
Elizabeth Auma, Brian Odhiambo’s mother, is now urging the government to release the body of her son, who was allegedly found floating in Lake Nakuru on Monday, February 17.
Addressing the press on Tuesday morning, the heartbroken mother narrated how people believed to be Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers reportedly took her son’s body after retrieving it from the lake.
According to her, the body was first spotted by two young men who had gone fishing in Lake Nakuru. However, before they could retrieve the body, the officers arrived.
Attempts by the youthful fishermen to stop the KWS officers from taking away Brian’s body proved futile, as the armed officers allegedly threatened to shoot them.
“The young men found my son’s body in the water on Monday, but before they could remove the body, a boat carrying KWS officers arrived. They attempted to stop the officers but they were threatened,” Brian’s mother narrated.
“The officers intervened and took the body before they rode away, they did not harm the boys. They aimed to take the body away,” she claimed.
Auma further revealed that she had since visited several mortuaries to trace her son but she was informed that no bodies had arrived at the mortuaries since yesterday.
While pleading for the release of her son’s body, Brian’s mother noted that she would only find peace and settle the stalemate if the officers handed over the son’s body to her.
“Why don’t they give us the body for burial, if they give us the body we will never demonstrate again. We want the body which they took away using the boat,” Auma stated.

Despite the grief and outcry by Odhiambo’s mother, KWS is yet to respond to the allegations with Brian’s kin questioning the motive behind the decision to deny them access to the deceased’s body.
The latest development comes weeks after a High Court in Nakuru dismissed Brian Odhiambo’s case citing a lack of evidence that indeed the deceased was in the custody of KWS officers before his disappearance.
Delivering the judgment on February 6, Justice Julius Nangea declined to issue further orders on the matter, leaving the family with no option other than to accept the court’s ruling.
Moments after the ruling, Brian’s mother fell on her knees and broke down outside the courtroom, as she expressed dissatisfaction with the court decision.
