Chaos in parliament as Wetangula kicks out Azimio MPs, Millie Odhiambo, Rozaah Buyu in a debate to ouster Sabina Chege.

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo and her Kisumu West counterpart, Rozaah Buyu, were kicked out of Parliament on Thursday, June 8, after bringing proceedings to a standstill.

This came after the two started protesting against a ruling by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on the ouster of Sabina Chege as Minority deputy whip.

The chaos erupted when Speaker Moses Wetangula was ruling on the ouster of Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege as the deputy minority whip.

In his decision, Wetangula had noted that he would not authorize the removal of Chege from her position owing to a petition filed in court.

His decision did not sit well with the Azimio MPs, who objected to leaving the chamber.

“Sergeant in arms, kindly ensure the two MPs are taken outside the Parliament.

“Honourable Buyu and Millie Odhiambo, please leave the House. I want to see the two outside… Sergeant at Arms can you take the two members out!” Wetangula ordered as the duo defied his orders.

Amidst the chaos, some of the Azimio MPs made their way to where Chege was seated as they demanded that she be removed from her position.

This prompted a contingent of sergeants of arms to surround the embattled minority whip.

Chege was later whisked away and taken through an exit door where Wetangula was seated as MPs were directed to leave the chamber.

Given that the chaos was becoming unmanageable, Wetangula suspended the sittings for 15 minutes.

“The house will take a recess of 15 minutes. Lower the mace,” he directed.

Earlier, Azimio had communicated to the speaker to replace Chege with her Embakasi West MP counterpart, Mark Mwenje.

The Raila Odinga faction effected the changes after the Chege pledged allegiance to Kenya Kwanza.
