Charging your phone overnight is more costly; Kenya Power warns

Kenya Power has acknowledged that some Kenyans believe charging their phones overnight saves them money in electricity bills

Kenya Power has acknowledged that some Kenyans believe charging their phones overnight saves them money in electricity bills.

In response to the widely held myth, Kenya Power, on Friday, January 17, noted that the myth was false.

Contrary to many people’s belief, the utility firm revealed that charging the phone overnight is more costly.

As explained, the phone and the charging system often draw small amounts of power even when the phone has fully charged.

Therefore, it is advisable to always unplug your phone once it has fully been charged.

“Once your phone is fully charged, it continues to draw small amounts of power, wasting energy over time,” Kenya Power explained.

“Unplug your charger once your phone is fully charged or use smart plugs to cut off power automatically.”

Other energy-saving tips Kenya Power has been advising Kenyans to adopt include avoiding filling water on a kettle when boiling.

“To save on your power bills, avoid boiling a full kettle if you only need hot water for one or two cups, as this results in the wastage of heat energy,” the utility firm advised.

Kenyans have also been encouraged to avoid using electricity bulbs during the day.

“Unplug electronics when not in use. TV and music systems consume energy when turned off,” Keny Power advised.
