Police in Nandi have arrested a couple after the bodies of their two sons were found decomposing in a pit latrine.
The boys aged four and six were reported missing six days ago.
Their bodies were discovered along Chepterit-Baraton Road in Chemundu village.
“They (the couple) were supposed to be taken to court, but we held on after receiving information about the children’s bodies,” said Chesumei OCPD Thomas Kiogora, adding that more witnesses have come forward with information related to the deaths.
According to relatives, the couple had a dispute over parental care of the children.
The children’s grandmother described a fight between the couple on December 5, which forced the woman to flee their home, leaving behind three children.
“She returned the next day to find two children missing,” she said. “We searched the neighbourhood with no success and advised them to report the matter to the police.”
She further alleged that the father was not willing to provide for the children, claiming they were from the wife’s first marriage.

The witnesses noted the man often beats the children severely to the extent of inflicting serious injuries on them.
According to the residents, the children’s mother had in the past reported the husband at Chemundu Police Station over his brutal nature.
“This woman has been getting frustrated here in the neighborhood, so whenever they relocate to a new place, the husband beats her forcing the house owner to chase them away, they move to another place and get ejected again because of their drama.”
Police also recovered bloodstained clothes from the scene, suggesting the children were brutally killed before being buried.
“Preliminary evidence indicates murder, with both parents implicated in some way,” Kiogora said. “Following the investigation, the law will ensure justice for the children.”
