Court orders Ngirita’s arrest over NYS scandal case just days after announcing her political move
1 min readCourt has ordered Ngirita’s arrest over the NYS scandal case just days after announcing her political move.
An anti-corruption court ordered Ann Ngirita to be placed in custody until she can find another surety to stand for her in the Sh468m NYS graft case.
Magistrate Eunice Kagure made the order after one Stephen who had given out his property to stand as surety for Ann chose to withdraw the same.
Kagure said surety is a voluntary act and the Court lacks the power to force anyone to continue acting as a surety.
The surety amount is Sh500,000.
The news comes just a week after Ngirita announced her candidacy for the Nakuru women’s representative seat.
She made the statement after being welcomed by party officials in Nakuru after joining the ruling Jubilee party.
Her arrival into politics prompted a storm of criticism, prompting the party to give contradictory statements.
Officials from Nakuru addressed the press, stating that Ngirita must first obtain approval before being fully welcomed, while the party’s secretary-general Raphael Tuju denied rumors that she had been rejected.
