Three people lost their lives and 6 others left nursing injuries after over 20 armed bandits struck again in Baringo.

Over 20 armed bandits have struck again in Baringo County where they laid ambush on herders looking after their livestock at Nenteiyo hills in the Kiserian area on Thursday afternoon.

According to the area chief George Gateiya the bandits shot at herders and attempted to steal their livestock at the grazing field before engaging in a fierce gunfire exchange with GSU officers from Kiserian who responded to the distress calls.

The gunfight, according to Chief Gateiya, lasted more than thirty minutes before the attackers were routed and fled to the Chepkalacha area of Tiaty Sub-county.

Learning at Kiserian Primary School was halted with pupils and teachers scampering for safety as others locked themselves inside classrooms.

In now renewed bandit attacks in the north rift, three people lost their lives and 6 others were left nursing injuries in a raid at Purra area of Samburu County.

The attack saw more than 150 livestock stolen.

Area residents blamed the multi-agency security operation teams for laxity.

Tension is reported high in the area barely a day after another daring banditry attack was laid by the same bandits at Kapindasum area for close to six hours before they were repulsed.

The incident is the latest in a series of bandit attacks in the area, classified as disturbed and dangerous, and which saw the deployment of a multi-agency security team to combat banditry.

Meanwhile, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops have taken a lead role in patrolling the area following Tuesday’s ambush of a General Service Unit (GSU) camp by armed bandits who laid a siege for more than 6 hours.
