Gachagua mocks Matiang’i over the alleged raid at his Karen home asking him to carry out an internal soul-searching.

Following allegations that police officers raided his Karen home, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to conduct an internal soul-searching.

On Sunday, February 12, Gachagua refuted the allegations while claiming that Matiang’i was tormented by decisions he made while leading the Interior Ministry.

“Do not mind those pretending that they have been arrested. These people are having hallucinations and nightmares; they cannot sleep because they used police officers to frustrate people.

“Now, when they see an officer, they have nightmares. The prayer of the widows, orphans, and families of those who were found dead in River Yala and those who were taken to Arberdares is what is haunting them,” he remarked.

Gachagua also chastised the media for spreading claims without doing their research.

He insisted that, unlike under the previous administration, the National Police Service (NPS) was an independent entity.

“The police service we have is professional and has no time for politics or to go and raid a house at night. We have no time to deploy our police for nonsense,” he stated.

On the evening of February 8, Matiang’i said that members of an elite squad acting on orders from the ruling party surrounded his Karen residence with the intention of arresting him.

Both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) chief Mohamed Amid and the Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome distanced themselves from the alleged raid.

However, Amin confirmed that the CS was under investigation by the police but the probe had not reached a stage that required the assistance or attendance of Matiang’i.

The DP also dismissed calls by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to have President William Ruto recall predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as his Peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.

He maintained that the Ruto administration was not hell-bent on taking revenge for the ill-treatment brought upon them during Uhuru’s regime.

His sentiments were echoed by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who called on Kenya Kwanza leaders to work together to unite the country.
