Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called for political maturity and tolerance following chaos at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party launch.

In a statement on Thursday, May 15, Kindiki noted that insults and violence should not be used to settle political scores.

The DP further urged political leaders and supporters to uphold peace and dialogue even if they disagree on policy issues.

“Our country must exercise democratic tolerance and embrace issue-based politics. Insults, violence and divisive rhetoric as a means of processing political differences of opinion have no place in our society.

“We owe to the current and future generations a nation built on peace, peaceful coexistence and respect for one another even if we disagree on issues of policy,” he said.

Earlier Wednesday, tension gripped the launch of Gachagua’s party after gunshots were fired at the venue.

According to reports, the commotion began when a group of individuals attempted to force their way into the event.

In response, a man believed to be part of Gachagua’s security team discharged several shots into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd

The incident occurred shortly after Gachagua and his entourage had exited the venue, narrowly missing the unfolding chaos.

The swift response from security personnel prevented the situation from escalating further, as calm was restored within five minutes of the shots being fired.

Gachagua’s new party, Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP), will be headquartered along Musa Gitau Road in Lavington.

Speaking at the launch, he promised that under the party’s leadership, Kenyans would at no point feel abandoned or left out.

“As a party, we believe every Kenyan should be listened to by their leaders. This listening must not just be listening for the sake of it; it must be deliberate, planned, have a purpose, and it must be sustainable. At no given time in our leadership shall Kenyans be left behind or remain unheard,” he said.
