Chaos was witnessed on Friday, March 22 after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya supporters clashed at a funeral in Goseta, Trans Nzoia County.

According to reports, the supporters of the two leaders shouted at the funeral before starting to pelt stones at each other.

The funeral which was attended by Speaker Wetang’ula and Governor Natembeya was disrupted with mourners running away to avoid being injured.

Police officers were forced to lob tear gas canisters at the event to stop the two warring factions from further chaos.

Reacting to the chaos, Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi said, “Western shall be liberated from poverty, backwardness, lack of steadfast leadership. No matter what. However painful. It shall be done.”

Natembeya has in recent weeks been engaged in a war of words with Wetang’ula accusing him of poor leadership in the Western region.

The Trans Nzoia governor also accused the National Assembly speaker of glorifying poverty in the region.

“These people are making the Luhya people a brand of jokes everywhere, and they are happy to do so; these are the leaders we have. Leaders who in their entire lives have never sacrificed anything for anybody,” Natembeya slammed Wetang’ula on March 17.

Wetangu’la is yet to directly respond to the first-term governor over the remarks.
