Ex-CS Joe Mucheru lands international job after being appointed President of UK Fintech Firm.
The immediate former Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has been appointed president of JUMO – a multinational intelligent banking firm.
In a statement to newsrooms on Sunday, JUMO said Mucheru will support the company to deliver its growth goals, navigate the regulatory landscape, and build the firm’s presence across the African continent.
Ex-CS Joe Mucheru will be working with JUMO’s operational hub in London, the United Kingdom.
While welcoming Mucheru, Jumo founder and CEO Andrew Watkins-Ball said he brings an invaluable perspective given his experience in previous roles.
Joe Mucheru has since welcomed the appointment saying he is excited to be joining the team.
“JUMO is revolutionizing the lending space in Africa, connecting entrepreneurs and individuals to the financial products they need to grow and prosper,” said Mucheru.
He added; “I am excited to be joining a business that is helping capital providers make attractive returns at the same time as supporting measurable impact. I look forward to working with Andrew and the team.”

Mucheru’s appointment came just over two months after members of the Uhuru Kenyatta cabinet handed over to the William Ruto cabinet after swearing in on October 27, 2022.
JUMO is a mobile financial service platform for mobile network operators and banks.
The company presents itself as a financial technology company that partners with banks, mobile network operators, and other e-commerce players to deliver progressive financial choices to customers in emerging markets across Africa and Asia.
It boasts itself as the bridge between entrepreneurs and capital by helping them create financial identities using their behavioral data.
Mucheru is not new to the tech space having held top positions in the country and region before being appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the cabinet.
A Global Board Member of the UNICEF Generation Unlimited, the former CS also served as the Chairman of the African Telecommunications Union- a subsidiary of the African Union – between August 2018 and July 2022.
The former CS was Google Sub-Saharan Africa Ambassador and Energy Access and Investment Regional Lead between 2014 and 2019.
Mucheru became the second of Uhuru’s CSs to land an international job.
In November 2022, former Tourism boss Najib Balalah was appointed vice president of Fauna & Flora International (FFI).
