Former DCI boss George Kinoti has made his first public appearance since he left office after Ruto assumed the presidency last year

Former DCI boss George Kinoti has made his first public appearance since he left office after Ruto assumed the presidency last year.

Following his redeployment to the Public Service Commission following President William Ruto’s assumption of power, Kinoti has been relatively quiet.

However, made his first appearance at the book launch of former Head of Public Service Ambassador Francis Muthaura.

The book ‘A Moving Horizon’ was launched at Serena Hotel, in Nairobi.

President William Ruto announced Kinoti’s resignation from his position as Director of Criminal Investigations in September 2022.

“The commission will get someone to act in that position for now as we wait for the other processes to fill the position,” Ruto said.

Kinoti was on the receiving end from Ruto and his team during the campaign period.

After four years at the helm of the investigative agency, he exited under a cloud of disapproval by President William Ruto, who accused him of weaponizing the war on graft and other crimes, especially during the run-up to the August 9, 2022, General Election.

Ruto accused Kinoti of targeting leaders who were affiliated with him but opposed to Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

Kinoti had gone quiet in the run-up to and after the August General Election.

At the time, the President also announced that Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai had proceeded on terminal leave. Mutyambai had six months left before retiring.

In October of the same year, the National Police Service Commission approved the transfer of services for the former Director General Directorate of Criminal Investigation to the Public Service Commission.

This was on condition that Kinoti would remain with remuneration and privileges personal to himself, with effect from September 27, 2022, until attainment of mandatory retirement age.

Kinoti had resigned as the DCI director but remained an officer in the National Police Service.

Ruto later appointed the director of the Internal Affairs Unit Mohamed Amin as the new Director of Criminal Investigations, replacing Kinoti.
