Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri apologizes to President Uhuru Kenyatta amid fallout in Kenya Kwanza government

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri apologizes to President Uhuru Kenyatta amid fallout in Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking on Friday Kimani Ngunjiri asked Uhuru Kenyatta to forgive him in the event he felt offended by him.

Ngunjiri, who was a fierce critic of Uhuru ahead of the 2022 General elections in which he backed President William Ruto for the presidency, said it is time for reconciliation.

The former MP said the political season is over and it is time for all leaders to channel energy towards unity of purpose.

The MP was reacting to a move by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to ask Uhuru to join him in uniting the Mt Kenya region.

“On Gachagua seeking peace with Uhuru, I want to say that was a political season where people clash. After that people make peace,” he said in an interview Friday.

“Even me, If I wronged the former President I ask him to forgive me.”

While addressing Kianyaga residents on Tuesday, Gachagua asked Uhuru to work with him for the sake unity of the Mt Kenya people.

He said that the election period is over and they should work together to benefit Kenyans.

The comments of the former Bahati MP came weeks after speculations of a rift between President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and a divided Mount Kenya region politics.

Ngunjiri accused Ruto’s henchmen of propagating the fight against the second in command by organising meetings to sabotage Gachagua.

“This is Farouk Kibet, Oscar Sudi, and CS Kipchumba Murkomen planning to sabotage Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. They have sufficient funds to carry out their plan,” the former MP claimed, clearly appearing to court Gachagua who appears isolated by several Mt Kenya politicians.

DP Gachagua has on several occasions called on the people of the Mt Kenya region to embrace peace and support each other.

Gachagua said by uniting, they shall develop the region and the country.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is our son, he should come so that we unite, is that okay? Do you have a problem with him? The election period is over. We should unite as one region and love each other. If we fail to unite, love each other and agree, we shall find ourselves in difficult situations,” he said.

The DP further asked the residents if they approved his unity call.

“Do you want us to unite? How many of you want us to unite and be one team?” he posed.
