Former Nairobi Provincial Police Officer Anthony Kibuchi dies in hospital while undergoing cancer treatment.
Kibuchi died on Thursday, May 15, while undergoing cancer treatment at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital in Nairobi.
The former Nairobi Police boss’s family disclosed that he succumbed to prostate cancer, which he had been diagnosed with in 2018.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has mourned Kibuchi as a dedicated officer who served the country with honour and distinction.
“We mourn the passing of former Nairobi Provincial Police Commander, Mr. Anthony Kibuchi, a dedicated officer who served our nation with honour and distinction. His commitment to duty and the safety of Kenyans remains a legacy we deeply cherish.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire National Police Service fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” PS Omollo stated.
Kibuchi served as Provincial Police Officer in Nyanza and North Eastern regions, before being transferred to Nairobi in 2009. He held the position until his retirement in 2013 and was replaced by Benson Kibui.

In August 2012, Kibuchi made headlines after threatening legal action against then-Chief Justice Willy Mutunga over allegedly defamatory remarks regarding the enforcement of court orders.
After his retirement, Kibuchi continued public service when he was appointed as the chairperson of the Kirinyaga County Community Policing Initiative in 2015.
Kibuchi will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at his Kianungu village home in Mwea, Kirinyaga county.
