Senator John Methu one of Gachagua allies stripped of Senate committee chairmanship responds.
Nyandarua Senator John Methu Muhia has spoken out following his removal as the Chairperson of the Senate’s Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
In a statement on Thursday, February 13, Methu attributed his removal to his political stance, however, maintaining that he harbors no regrets about the choices he made.
“It was an honour to serve in the house leadership as the Chairperson of the Senate’s Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Committee as well as a member of the County Public Accounts Committee. The political choice I have consciously made contributes to the stripping but I bow out with absolutely no regrets,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Muhia acknowledged the trust placed in him during his tenure.
“I thank William Ruto and his UDA party for giving me an opportunity to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources for the last two and a half years,” he added.
According to media reports, allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have been removed from key Senate committee positions.
Notable figures affected include Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who was removed from his role as chair of the Senate Education Committee.
On the other hand, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa was ousted from his position as chair of the Roads and Transport Committee, while Kirinyaga Senator James Murango was dismissed as chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Reacting to his removal, Thang’wa declared his resolve to continue serving the nation unbowed despite the political shake-up.
Describing the move as a calculated political purge, the Senator took the decision in stride, even thanking his party for freeing up his schedule.
“I knew it would happen! I expected it! The purge has been effected. I take it like a man and vow to soldier on, unbowed. Meanwhile, I sincerely thank the Yellow party for freeing up my schedule.
“Chairing the Roads & Transport Committee at the Senate was great, but I guess progress was just too much to handle. Now, with no shackles on my hands, it’s time to inject proper! — without speed bumps! I continue serving the Nation and the People with my head high,” he said.
Other than Gachagua allies, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who declared his intention to vie for the presidency at the 2027 General Election, was removed from the Senate Public Accounts Committee.
