Gachagua forced to cancel two events after Limuru attack

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly canceled his planned visit to a funeral in Molo and a church event in Pipeline, Nakuru

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly canceled his planned visit to a funeral in Molo and a church event in Pipeline, Nakuru.

The cancellation comes days after suspected goons caused chaos during a funeral in Limuru.

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has attributed the decision to canceling the events to heightened security concerns.

Wiper partly leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also condemned the event as state-sponsored, although there’s no confirmation of governmental involvement from official sources.

“Despite the statements from both the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, and the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, that the chaos was due to ‘a lack of advanced intelligence’ and that former Limuru MP Mwathi and area MCA Christopher Ireri were not in their custody, the evidence is irrefutable: This was a state-sponsored attack and abductions,” he said.

The incident happened on Thursday, at the time former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi was addressing mourners at Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru, when unknown individuals started hurling objects and chairs, forcing mourners to scamper for safety.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was present at the funeral, and his cars were damaged.

Mwathi’s wife, Dr Anne Mungai, had earlier claimed that her husband’s vehicle was sandwiched by two Subaru vehicles, leading to him being taken away, as she pleaded for his release.

“Mine is just to ask for the release of my husband because he went to a funeral, he has attended many other funerals in Limuru. He has served the people of Limuru diligently and he was abducted by force,” Dr Mungai stated.

“The vehicle that he had gotten into so that he could get out of the chaos was sandwiched by two Subarus that had no number plates.”

On Friday morning, DCI summoned Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa among other leaders.

According to Police Spokesperson Resila Onyango, Mwathi is not a person of interest in the case.

“We wish to clarify that the National Police Service did not arrest Hon. Peter Mwathi, and he is not a person of interest to the Police,” she said.

This follows earlier claims by Senators Karungo Thangwa (Kiambu) and his Nyandarua counterpart John Methu that the ex-Limuru Member of Parliament was arrested by police officers in the process.

The two, who were accompanied by other leaders at DCI headquarters, claimed they were there seeking his whereabouts but had not been helped.
