The government, through the Ministry of Lands, has distanced itself from allegations of orchestrating the grabbing of 2600 acres of Kibiko land in Kajiado from the rightful owners.
This follows yesterday’s incident where a group of locals from Kajiado protested outside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s home in Karen, Nairobi, demanding his intervention over the saga.
The locals accused a section of senior government officials, including Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir and Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuyia, of reportedly aiding the grabbing of the prime property.
During the protests, the residents demanded resignation of PS Korir. One of the placards read, ‘Korir Must Go!’ while some read, ‘Baba help us’ and ‘Justice of the Maasai Community.’
Following the incident, the Ministry of Lands has responded, refuting the allegations that a section of senior government officials colluded to grab the Ksh2 billion land.

According to a statement released by Head of Communications at the Ministry of Lands, Jibril Adan, the claims levelled against PS Korir and other senior government officials are malicious and unfounded.
“The recent allegations made by the Kajiado County Executive Committee Member and a group that staged a protest in Nairobi yesterday are purely malicious and meant to hoodwink the public,” the statement read in part.
The Ministry revealed that the case dates back to 2014 and is between Keekonyike Community Trust in Kibiko and other claimants of the land. Several petitions were filed by both parties in a bid to resolve the matter.
After years of legal battles, the court in March 2025 ordered the title deed of the land to be surrendered to the courts pending the determination of the matter.
After the title was surrendered, the case was closed in July 2025, with the Ministry noting that new title deeds are being processed based on the court’s ruling.
“Any aggrieved party has the right to seek redress from the Courts that have been handling the dispute since 2014,” the Ministry of Lands affirmed.
“Attempts to malign the names of the leadership and officers of the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning, or any other Government official, should be treated as baseless and dishonest,” it added.
While explaining the matter, the Ministry of Lands also criticised Kajiado County Government for fuelling tensions among the protesting community members.
