Government issues ultimatum to newly recruited interns or face disqualification

All newly recruited government interns must confirm their attendance to the launch of a Mega internship program or face disqualification

All newly recruited government interns must confirm their attendance to the launch of a Mega internship program or face disqualification.

The newly recruited interns have been advised by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria to verify their participation at the upcoming launch by President William Ruto, warning that failure to do so may result in disqualification.

The CS said on Monday that the Public Service Commission (PSC) had effectively completed a recruitment drive for the Wagenzi Internship Programme, scheduled for launch on Monday, March 4.

He emphasized that the government will benefit from this new program by being able to better connect graduates with internship opportunities and possible career paths.

“The government invests a lot of resources in the education sector, but we then let these graduates waste in society. The biggest tragedy in our country is the unemployment of the youth and this will not be allowed to continue under the Kenya Kwanza Administration,” he revealed.

“This morning, I met the technical team working on the launch of a Mega internship program, Wagenzi and I have committed to work extra hard and ensure most if not all our graduates get job placements either in Government, the private sector, or even Job exports outside the country.”

Yesterday, the CS disclosed that interns employed under the project were invited to attend the launch, scheduled to commence at 7:30 am, in person.

However, attendees must confirm their attendance by dialing *206#; failure to do so may result in automatic disqualification.

“To all the successful candidates who were selected for the 2024 Graduate Internship (Wagenzi) Programme by the Public Service Commission, We are pleased to invite you to flag off of the 2024 Wagenzi Cohort by President William Ruto at Ulinzi Sports Complex, off Langata Road just before Langata Barracks on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 7:30 am. Congratulations! Dial *206# to Confirm. Failure to confirm will lead to automatic disqualification,” Kuria added.

In January, PSC announced that it had appointed a total of 8,610 interns and deployed them to serve in different ministries, state departments, corporations, and public universities.

The internship programme was scheduled to last for 12 months while the interns will be guided by PSC-trained mentors and coaches.

Today, Kuria met the Kenya Private Sector Alliance for discussions aimed at partnering with the state and the private sector for the deployment of graduates under the national graduates internships program. He intends to link 49,000 interns with opportunities.

“The great program will also go a long way in ensuring we encourage our younger generations to appreciate education,” he added.
