Government through the Council of Legal Education lists universities approved to offer law courses in Kenya.
The Council of Legal Education has published a list of all universities approved to offer law courses in Kenya, including those whose approvals were still pending.
The council said in a Gazette Notice that was released on Friday that four universities had been given permission to offer Master of Laws programs.
The four are Strathmore Law School whose license will be valid until November 19, 2024, and Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Law whose license will expire on March 23, 2026.
Catholic University of Eastern Africa Faculty of Law and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) School of Law will both be up for review on June 20, 2028.
17 institutions were approved to offer Bachelor of Laws degree programme.
These include Daystar University School of Law Valley Road Campus, MKU School of Law Parklands Campus, University of Nairobi Faculty of Law Kisumu Campus, Kisii University School of Law, University of Embu School of Law, Umma University School of Law.
Others include Africa Nazarene University School of Law, Chuka University Faculty of Law, Moi University School of Law and Uon Faculty of Law – Parklands Campus, Egerton University Faculty of Law.

Kabarak University School of Law, Kabarak University School of Law, Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Faculty of Law, Strathmore Law School, Maseno University School of Law, and South Eastern University were also included in the list.
Four universities were approved to offer a Diploma in Law; MKU School of Law, Parklands Campus, Kisii University School of Law, Kenya Institute of Management, and CUEA Faculty of Law.
Pending approval
Daystar University School of Law’s application to renew its licenses for offering Bachelor of Laws was completed. The Council inspected the institution on October 19, 2023, pending approval.
The same also applied to MKU School of Law, Parklands Campus for Bachelor of Laws and Diploma in law.
Kenya School of Law’s bid to offer a Diploma in Law (Para Legal Studies) is still pending determination by the Council after an inspection was conducted on November 1, 2023.
The licenses from both Riara Law School and Kenyatta University School of Law to offer Bachelor of Laws were up for assessment.
