President William Ruto has disclosed that a new police uniform will be rolled out following an engagement with the police.
Speaking on Friday, December 13, during the launch of the National Police Service and State Department of Correctional Service strategic plans (2023-2027), President Ruto stated that the new uniform has been agreed on.
The Head of State said that the government is committed to ensuring that the police are well kitted to inspire them in their work.
“As I said before, we will engage the policemen and women so that we can have an appropriate uniform. I know that has been agreed upon and what is awaiting now is for us to roll out and make sure that we kit our police with uniform that gives them an inspiration to work and to go forward,” President Ruto remarked.
At the same time, he noted that the government was going to procure new vehicles for police stations and that 1,000 vehicles will be delivered early next year.
“We have already committed ourselves to engage and procure the first 1,000 vehicles. By early next year, we will deliver the first 1,000 vehicles. We intend to deliver 3,000 vehicles for our police stations for the police to be able to discharge their responsibilities as is appropriate,” President Ruto stated.

Similarly, the president intimated that the government has completed the construction of the first 582 housing units, with 1,000 currently under construction and 17,000 in the final stages of procurement to ensure police officers have access to decent housing.
He further committed to digitizing the police service to ensure effective service delivery and to implementing the reforms recommended by a taskforce that was led by former Chief Justice David Maraga.
“I did make a commitment that we are going to look into the terms of service, including salaries and insurance packages for our police officers. I’m happy that we have implemented phase one of the recommendations that were made by Maraga and I want to commit that all the other phases are equally going to be implemented,” President Ruto explained.
