Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga has decried that his life is in danger following an attack on one of his vehicles by gunmen on Sunday night.

Speaking to the media on Monday, May 12, Magwanga revealed that he had received credible information that some individuals were trailing him while heading home on Sunday.

This forced the former Kasipul MP to change his usual route. However, another vehicle with his security detail was attacked when coming to protect him at his home.

“When I was coming home, I received information that I was being trailed. So I decided to change my route. I told my people to open the gate so that I could get into the compound quickly,” he stated.

“My security team, that was coming for me, met them (the gunmen) where they were hiding along the way. My team fired at them twice. They also exchanged fire with the team, thinking that I was in the car.”

Following the attack, Magwanga noted that he was taking precautionary measures with the police investigating the matter.

“I had not taken this thing so seriously, thinking that they were empty threats. This is now real, and I have to take the necessary steps,” the deputy governor added.

Notably, the attack comes after the burial of Kasipul MP Charles Were, who was killed along Ngong Road on April 30.

Were succeeded Magwanga as Kasipul MP in 2017.

Police are still conducting investigations into the murder of Were, with a suspect believed to have shot the MP in police custody.
