Uhuru-Ruto handshake in offing as former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor William Ruto hold talks after years of political rivalry.

According to Taifa Leo, Uhuru, and Ruto have been in secret talks; it is believed the president wants to use his predecessor to re-endear himself to the Mt Kenya electorate in the face of the growing disdain fueled by the impeachment of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

Despite there being no official communication yet, the duo’s allies have alluded to their plan of partnering to calm the political temperatures in the country.

“The two leaders have been talking, and this reflects Ruto’s call for national unity as envisioned in his agenda to constitute a broad-based government,” Taifa Leo quoted an insider from State House Nairobi as saying.

The talks between Uhuru and Ruto could culminate in the inclusion of the former president’s allies in the current Executive.

Former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and former Laikipia governor Ndiritu Muriithi are among Uhuru’s allies Ruto is said to be considering for government jobs.

Insiders, however, explained that Uhuru is not keen on getting government posts, instead, he roots for a united country and a conducive environment where businesses can thrive.

This comes months after Ruto reconciled with Raila Odinga, his longtime political arch-rival.

The new camaraderie between the two saw some ranking ODM officials getting powerful slots in the Cabinet.
