Karua dismisses Kalonzo for recognizing William Ruto as President

Martha Karua differs with Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoko for recognising Ruto as a legitimate president.
Azimio co-principal Martha Karua has dismissed remarks by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that the coalition now recognizes President William Ruto as a legitimate Head of State.
The Narc Kenya leader refuted statements made by Kalonzo, who was quoted in the media as saying that the coalition now recognizes Ruto.
In a statement, the NARC Kenya Party leader who was Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 presidential election stated that the claim was false.
“Not true,” Karua said as she responded to the reports.
Karua did not, however, elaborate if she disagreed with Kalonzo’s sentiments or felt the publication had misquoted Kalonzo.
Kalonzo had on Saturday while attending the burial ceremony of Wiper-nominated MCA Constance Mkamburi Mwandawiro in Voi, Taita Taveta county said Azimio now recognises Ruto as the legitimate president.
He said the coalition took the move because of Ruto’s stance to keep the bi-partisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza faction and Azimio going.
“We are going to call everybody to order. And nobody is going to stop these discussions. On that part I must congratulate the President because he has put his foot down anasema mazungumzo iendelee,”Kalonzo said.
“Na kwa sababu ya kuonyesha msimamo huo, ata na sisi tunazidi kumtambua.”
The former vice president who co-chairs the National Dialogue Committee together with National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah had noted that Ruto had shown statesmanship, unlike his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

He said the coalition has no problem with the President, other than being shocked by the remarks by his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua who keeps dismissing the talks.
Gachagau has been insisting that the talks will yield no fruits.
“We have no issue with anyone, but we have a problem with some people’s remarks. Like the Deputy President’s remarks at a funeral in Ukambani. He spoke words that shocked the people of Machakos, some were just staring at him in disbelief,” Kalonzo said.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga had on January this year stated that he did not recognize Ruto as the President a position that was subsequently adopted by the coalition.
“We do not recognize the Kenya Kwanza administration as a legitimate government and Ruto as the president or any official in his government,” Raila stated then.
