Karua hits out at Ruto over corruption in Judiciary remarks 'start with yourself'

Martha Karua has fired back at President William Ruto after declaring war on corruption in the Judiciary and other state organs

Martha Karua has fired back at President William Ruto after declaring war on corruption in the Judiciary and other state organs.

In response to the President’s severe rhetoric on sugar cartels, the leader of Narc Kenya implied that despite his pledge to tackle corruption, a lot of corrupt individuals were within in his social circles.

Karua advised the President to start with his close associates before pursuing the others.

“Let President Ruto first search himself and his cabinet for such characters, unless of course there are licensed thieves of public resources,” Karua said.

Karua remarks come after Ruto declared war on the corrupt saying he would crush anyone used to stealing public resources.

Ruto said that Kenya will no longer give room to those who use politics to loot Kenyan resources maintaining that they have only three options.

“We can never continue to entertain corruption, theft, and wastage of public resources in whatever nature. We cannot continue to entertain those. Those who are used to stealing public resources, those using politics to protect the corrupt and thieves and theft; there will be no place for those people,” Ruto said.

The president also warned people in the Judiciary who are colluding with corrupt people to facilitate corruption.

Speaking on Thursday, August 31, at the Kakamega State Lodge, the President affirmed that they would deal with all the collaborators and ensure the corruption enterprise comes to an end.

Ruto accused some judges, whom he did not name, of turning the courts into a safe haven for the corrupt.

He accuses them of colluding with individuals who engage in economic crimes instead of fast-tracking their cases.

“There are people in our judicial system who are facilitating corruption by working with the corrupt, that’s why certain cases go to certain judges because they are part of the corruption enterprise,” Ruto stated.

He maintained that the corrupt and thieves only have three options in Kenya; leave Kenya, go to jail or go to heaven.

He added that he was not threatening anyone with his bold clarification saying that the corrupt must be dealt with decisively.

“It is not a threat… I have not threatened anyone. It is what we will do.”
