A Kenyan student lost his life in India after a freak incident saw him fall from a building where he was residing.
The 29-year-old, who was studying at a private college in Salem, was staying at a rented house at Kannankurichi – a town in Panchayat within the Salem Metropolitan Area of Tamil Nadu in India.
According to local outlets in India, the deceased, identified as Daniel, moved to Kannankurichi after discontinuing his studies and was living with a female roommate from Uganda.
Further reports indicate that on April 27, while speaking on the phone and sitting on the edge of a wall, Daniel lost his balance and fell, sustaining a head injury in the process.
It is believed that the wall he was resting on was in a dilapidated state, heightening the risk of a potential accident.
Following the fall, he was admitted to Salem Government Hospital, where he stayed for two weeks before his condition worsened. He passed away on Monday, May 12.
Local Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary reports suggesting Daniel may have been under the influence at the time of the freak accident.

The Kannankurichi area in India is more of a residential locality, with students seeking higher education mostly residing in the area. The students typically commute to Salem, which hosts some prestigious universities like Periyar University.
It, however, remains unclear which university the late Daniel was studying at before deciding to discontinue his studies.
Kenyans in India have been embroiled in a series of misfortunes in recent times, with this loss coming weeks after several individuals were nabbed in separate incidents for allegedly transporting unlawful narcotics.
In April, Indian customs officials nabbed a 43-year-old Kenyan woman for smuggling 1.7 kilogrammes of cocaine valued between Ksh225 million and Ksh300 million (Rs 15 to 20 crores).
Separately, at least 14 Kenyans were nabbed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while they were allegedly trying to smuggle gold and diamonds.
