Man United player still in contact with Mauricio Pochettino as the club back his appointment
Mauricio Pochettino has maintained communication with Manchester United player, Luke Shaw during their time together at Southampton, and there are rising calls for the Argentinian to be chosen as the club’s manager.
Pochettino is the manager of PSG, while Ralf Rangnick is the temporary manager at United, although it is becoming increasingly improbable that the German will be in control next season.
While Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is still a contender for the Old Trafford post, rumours say that United players are interested in Pochettino.
Shaw will bolster that notion, according to the Manchester Evening News, as the England full-back maintains communication with his old manager.
In January 2013, the former Argentina defender accepted his first position in England as manager of Southampton, where he had a good spell before transferring to Tottenham in May the following year.
Shaw was with him at Southampton before moving to Manchester United the following summer, but the pair are still in contact almost eight years later, and it looks that Shaw would like to work with his former boss again.
With Pochettino under contract at PSG for another year and the French club apparently not responding positively to prior offers, it’s unclear whether Manchester United will get their desired new manager.
It was reported that United made inquiries for Mauricio Pochettino in November when they got rid of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but PSG ‘played hardball’ over the approach.
Rangnick is poised for a consultancy post at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and the Sun reports that Ten Hag is the German’s favorite candidate to succeed him as manager.
The Ajax manager, like Pochettino, is under contract until 2023 in his current position.
