Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Saturday accommodated wanted fake lawyer Brian Mwenda at his Mombasa offices amid a manhunt by DCI.
Mike Sonko has maintained his defense of Brian Mwenda, who was found to have fabricated his legal credentials.
Mwenda was busted by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which said the former’s credentials could not be traced in the lawyers’ online directory.
In a video shared on his social media pages on October 14, 2023, Sonko further promised to drive the suspect to DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road to record a statement.
“We are going to bail this guy out. DCI we are going to produce this guy to your offices, probably on Monday or Tuesday for him to record a statement,” Mike Sonko stated.
Sonko said Brian Mwenda had not committed any crime by actively practicing law regardless of the lack of proper qualifications.
He said Mwenda was brilliant, and he ought to have been lauded for that.
“It is very sad to see guys attacking this grilling legal mind on social media. All those attacking this friend of mine are irrational. He has never killed anyone; he is not a terrorist or a criminal. He is just using his brains,” said Sonko.
Sonko further promised to enroll the embattled man to reputable law schools abroad for him to acquire the proper credentials to practice law.

“As I have stated earlier, we are going to ensure that he goes back to school. We are making plans and have initiated processes to admit him to international universities. Let us not condemn him. He is capable of becoming the Chief Justice. He is innocent until proven otherwise,” said Sonko.
On his part, Mwenda stated his willingness to face the justice system to shed light on the saga.
He refuted reports that he had been arrested, assuring his family that he was safe.
“I would like to convey my gratitude to the people supporting and praying for me. In the fullness of time, I will be able to clear this misunderstanding. I will also be able to prove my innocence and provide the actual context of what is really happening,” he said.
“I also want to convey to my family that I am safe and I am not arrested as earlier indicated. I am very open to availing myself to any police station when the time is right,” he said.
