Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has received three prestigious international awards including an honorary doctorate in leadership and governance.

The American University of Peace and Governance (AUPG, USA) awarded Sonko the Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Governance in recognition of his achievements in sustainable development and sustainable humanitarian and social work.

The UNIPGC Supreme Council also bestowed on him the Leadership Excellence Award for his transformational leadership, patriotism, and efforts in promoting good governance.

He was also conferred with the honours of Leadership Excellence by the Jewel Howard Taylor Leadership Program.

In a statement on Saturday celebrating the achievements, Sonko revealed that he received the awards at the House of Lords, British Parliament, London on Friday, September 26.

“Yesterday, together with other nominated leaders globally, I received the United International Peace and Governance Council(UNIPGC) Honors at the British Parliament,” Sonko shared.

“I was conferred with a joint honors of Leadership Excellence Award by UNIPGC and the Jewel Howard Taylor Leadership Program (Former Vice President of Liberia) and a Honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Governance by the American University of Peace and Governance, USA  in recognition of my outstanding contributions to sustainable humanitarian efforts, social work, and Human capital development,” his statement read.

The award ceremony was held at the historic House of Lords, British Parliament, during the 3rd Edition of the UNIPGC Global Leadership Investment Summit and Peace Awards (GLISPA).

The event was organized by the UK Chapter of the UNIPGC Council.

According to the former county boss, he graced the summit as both a keynote speaker and award recipient. 

“True leadership is not measured by titles or positions, but by the impact we make on humanity,” Sonko said in his keynote speech.

“Leadership without compassion is incomplete. Throughout my years in public service, I have sought to go beyond policies and politics to touch lives in tangible ways.”

UNIPGC bestows various awards and honours on organizations and individuals in recognition of their contributions to peace, leadership and sustainable development globally.

The awards include Grand Commander of Peace title, Leadership Excellence Awards and Honorary Doctorates.

Awards are always held annually, in various locations worldwide and are presented at their international symposiums, masterclasses, and summits.
