MP Were’s son announces bid to vie for Kasipul seat

A son of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were has announced he will be vying for Kasipul seat to succeed his father.
A son of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were has announced he will be vying for Kasipul seat to succeed his father.
Boyd Were, through a statement on Friday, May 16, said he plans to contest for the seat so he can continue the work his father was doing in the area before he was brutally shot.
“Dear Kasipul Constituents, I humbly step forward to continue the development journey my father began. His vision for a better Kasipul remains alive in me, and I am committed to seeing every project he initiated completed,” Boyd said.
“With your full support, we will walk this journey together, steadfast and united, until the dream is fully realised,” he added.
If elected, Boyd said, he will focus more on projects around education, economic empowerment, and youth empowerment that were introduced by his late father.
“The Milele na Milele narrative will not end. The students my father sponsored will continue their education without interruption. To the widows he supported, I stand as your son, ready to continue that care.
And to the youth who found mentorship and opportunity in him, I am your fellow youth, and I will carry forward that same spirit of empowerment,” Boyd said.

Boyd called on residents of Kasipul to support his bid as the constituency prepares to conduct a by-election whose date is yet to be announced.
“Let us move forward as one people, with one purpose, and one future. The legacy lives on, and together we will build a stronger, more inclusive Kasipul for generations to come,” he said.
Boyd’s announcement came after various politicians allied to ODM asked Raila Odinga’s party to hand the late Were’s son a direct nomination.
During Were’s burial, the leaders urged party leader Raila Odinga to give him the ticket, describing Boyd as capable of taking over the mantle from his father, who was the victim of a brutal murder on the evening of April 30. This happened when Ong’ondo was ambushed and fatally shot in what authorities believe was a targeted hit.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the MP’s car was attacked near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road.
Investigations into his murder are still ongoing, with the police having arrested multiple people so far.
