Mt Kenya leaders hit out at their Western counterparts over Sakaja- Gachagua spat

Leaders from Mt Kenya have responded to their Western counterparts over Sakaja- Gachagua spat on the management of Nairobi County

Leaders from Mt Kenya have responded to their Western counterparts over Sakaja- Gachagua spat on the management of Nairobi County.

A section of Mt. Kenya leaders has cautioned their western colleagues against accusing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of trying to micro-manage Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.

Their response comes after some leaders from Western Kenya accused the deputy president of being tribal and threatened to bring a motion of impeachment against him.

They faulted DP for undermining Sakaja asking him to let the governor implement the promises he made to the people of Nairobi.

“Every time Gachagua opens his mouth you wonder, whether he is the deputy president or he is the deputy president of the Kikuyu republic. In fact, at some point, I will bring a motion in parliament to discuss his conduct and impeach him because he is becoming a very big embarrassment to this country,” Bumula MP Jack Wamboka said.

However, Mt Kenya leaders observed that Sakaja is not a leader western region but a representative of Nairobi voters.

“The deputy president was only reminding the governor that he was elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket and how he should conduct himself. In fact, the majority of people in Nairobi are from Central Kenya and he has an interest,” said Mathira MP Mwangi Wamumbi.”

“So, I want to question our Western Kenya counterparts not to view Sakaja as someone from their region. Sakaja is a Nairobian,” he added.

”They must understand that Gachagua was on the frontline defending the businessmen of Nairobi mostly those of Nymakima,” he said.

The lawmaker urged Sakaja to protect Kenyan businesses and rubbished claims that it was a tribal war.

”Sakaja is our UDA governor and we want to urge him to protect our business,” he added.

DP Gachagua and Sakaja recently differed over the Governor’s intentions to eject long-distance matatus from the Nairobi CBD sparking debate over their working relationship.

Gachagua termed the move as ill-intentioned which he claimed was aimed at persecuting the business community from Mt. Kenya.
