MPs call on Ruto to intervene on Gachagua- Sakaja feud

MPs from Western Kenya castigate DP Gachagua for overstepping his mandate in attempting to undermine Nairobi county governor Johnson Sakaja.

Members of Parliament (MP) from the Western Counties have urged President William Ruto to step in and put an end to the conflict between Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja and deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

Led by Busia woman representative Catherine Omanyo, the legislators criticized Gachagua, accusing him of failing to perform the tasks that President William Ruto had assigned him.

Omanyo charged Gachagua of indulging in tribal politics while joined by fellow Azimio MPs from the Western region of the nation, including Sirisia MP John Waluke and Kakamega women representative Elsie Muhanda.

“Why is Gachagua only talking and defending his Kikuyu tribe? He should be reminded that he’s not a Kikuyu Deputy President,” Omanyo stated.

The leaders demanded Gachagua stop micro-managing Sakaja and allow him to exercise his mandate untethered.

“He is supposed to make sure that he throws eyes across all Kenya and make sure every tribe is inclusive,” Omanyo reiterated.

The most recent disputes started when governor Sakaja insisted that matatus should not be permitted in the city’s central business district, which the deputy president claimed appeared to be a form of persecution for the Mt. Kenya community.

“We do not want his high speed (in making decisions) and I have summoned him for a sitting…It is a no for any of his decisions that might have a negative effect on our people,” Gachagua stated.
