ODM leader Raila Odinga has refuted claims that he has abandoned his long-held political ideals after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with President William Ruto.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 11, Raila made it clear that his stance remains unchanged and that it was Ruto who sought dialogue with him, not the other way around.
“Many people have been making noise that Raila has gone to Ruto and abandoned them. I have not gone to Ruto, he has come to me; my position has not changed,” he stated.
Raila emphasized his unwavering commitment to fighting for the rights of all Kenyans, a cause he has championed throughout his political career.
He pointed to past protests against the high cost of living and corruption as evidence of his dedication to social justice and governance reforms.
“Since I was born until now, I have been fighting for the rights of all Kenyans. The other year we were out in the road protesting against the high cost of living. We have also protested in the past about corruption and tribalism,” he added.
Raila defended his MoU with the government, arguing that national issues cannot be resolved without dialogue and consensus.
“These problems cannot be solved without people coming together and agreeing on the way forward. That is why they came to us seeking our help,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Raila’s aide, Prof Makau Mutua, has called out Kenyans and leaders criticizing the former Prime Minister for signing the deal with Ruto.
In a statement on Tuesday, March 11, Mutua opined that most Kenyans criticizing Raila had no moral authority to do so because they had never supported his presidential bid.
He said those opposing the deal did not even support Raila in the 2022 General Election.
“Those attacking Raila Odinga for his MoU with William Ruto should shut up. These are the same people who’ve never voted for him in any election, including in 2022. Shame on them! How can someone you refused to marry cheat on you?” He posed.
