Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi has faulted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for claiming he opposed some projects in Cabinet meetings.
Gachagua has on several occasions claimed that he opposed various government projects in Cabinet.
In a statement on Monday, Itumbi claimed Cabinet records show Gachagua spoke less than seven times during his tenure as the deputy.
“Modern governance demands accountability, and it is important to set the record straight,” Itumbi said.
“Fact: Gachagua never opposed the modernisation of Bomas. He is on record in Cabinet supporting its fast-tracking, acknowledging that it was unfortunate that such a premier facility had been neglected for decades,” Itumbi claimed.
“Gachagua must have forgotten that Cabinet meetings are now digitised, and the record shows that he barely contributed in Cabinet meetings. Speaking less than seven times in his entire period as DP and at no time opposing anything.”
Speaking on Sunday, Gachagua claimed a proposal to sell the Bomas of Kenya was brought to Cabinet and he was the only one who opposed it.
“The issue about selling the Bomas of Kenya was brought in Cabinet; I am the only one who opposed it. The rest of the people have fear. I am the only one who stood strong and said it is a national heritage and we cannot sell it,” Gachagua claimed.

Itumbi, however, countered the claims by Gachagua that the Bomas of Kenya had been sold, terming the sentiments as “misleading.”
“His (Gachagua) remarks alleging that the facility has been sold to a Turkish national are not only baseless but also a desperate attempt to mislead the public and derail national progress,” Itumbi said.
He noted that the Bomas of Kenya, an institution that has remained largely unchanged since the 1970s, is being transformed into a world-class international conference and cultural centre.
The former DP has on several occasions alleged that he was at the frontline to reject some proposals in the cabinet meetings.
Gachagua was impeached in October 2024, after serving as DP since September 2022, becoming the first deputy president to be impeached in Kenya’s history.
