Nike founder and family posted a $1 billion profit in a single day as the sportswear company raises its dividend.
Phil Knight is the 16th richest person on the planet, with a net worth of $65.1 billion. The 83-year-old American business magnate is a co-founder of Nike, the world’s largest athletic footwear and apparel corporation.
The family’s wealth valuation jumped by almost $1 billion on Friday alone, as the sports company Nike, co-founded by Knight, made a leap into the metaverse and upped its quarterly dividend.
Nike Inc. shares also surged on Friday as the world’s largest sports clothing business increased its quarterly payout by 11%, continuing a twenty-year streak of rises. The dividend will be paid on December 28, 2021, to shareholders who were registered on December 6, 2021, at the close of business.
Investors flocked to the sports clothing company after it turned digital at the close of Friday’s trading session, netting Phil Knight and his family $1.07 billion. To date, they have amassed $11.2 billion in wealth.
Nikeland, a virtual environment on the Roblox game platform, will be developed in collaboration with Roblox by the Beaverton, Oregon-based firm. Nike’s virtual environment features the company’s physical headquarters as well as Nike buildings, fields, and arenas where gamers may participate in mini-games like tag, dodgeball, and “The Floor is Lava.” Nikeland is free of charge (for now).
Moments that resemble worldwide athletic events will be included in a future version of the game. A soccer match during the World Cup or a flag football game during the Super Bowl are two examples. It stated that it will continue to integrate athletes and products into the virtual world.
