The newly appointed bishop of Nyahururu ACK Diocese has issued a heartfelt apology to Gen Zs amidst their ongoing protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Samson Mburu Gachathi, acknowledging the grievances of the younger generation, expressed regret on behalf of the clergy and pledged his commitment to support them until a resolution is reached.

“I will be open to joining in discussing social issues and endeavoring to promote peace and reconciliation. To the Gen Zs, I have been followed all through. I have heard your cries and concerns and please forgive us where we have failed you as a church. As a young bishop, I can identify with your frustrations. There is a big dichotomy between what we sometimes confess as Christians and what we practice. I will endeavor to challenge this status with my life in what I say and do. I invite you all to engage with me as we seek to find a lasting solution for our country,” he said.

Supporting Bishop Gachathi’s stance, Archbishop Ole Sapit urged the government to respond appropriately and address the issues raised by the youth.

The two clergy officials made these commitments during the consecration and enthronement of Mburu, which took place on Sunday, June 23.

President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, alongside other political leaders, were also present during the event.

The appeals come in the midst of street demonstrations by young people protesting against the Finance Bill 2024, which they deem burdensome.

Meanwhile, the government deployed heavy security at the Nyahururu ACK church and its surroundings ahead of President Ruto’s visit.

This followed a warning by a Gen Zs to the church’s bishop a day before the event.

In the viral message, the sender informed the cleric about the church’s role and alleged corruption by politicians.
