President William Ruto has donated Ksh1 million to the family of late comedian Zakaria Kariuki alias KK Mwenyewe.
Ruto’s contribution was announced by the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, Dennis Itumbi, on Monday, July 21, 2025, during a memorial service for the late KK Mwenyewe.
Speaking during the event, Itumbi said he will deliver the President’s contribution directly to the comedian’s mother.
“President Ruto has contributed Ksh1 million. While I was sitting here, I asked how much was remaining in the budget, and I was told it’s KSh1.2 million. Now, with KSh1.5 million, haven’t we already covered that? I have all that money with me, but I’ve requested to go and give it to his mother,” said Itumbi.
Other contributions to KK Mwenyewe’s funeral included: Ksh200,000 from Kikuyu MP Kimani Iching’wah, Ksh100,000 from Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, and Ksh200,000 from Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

KK Mwenyewe passed away on Monday, July 15, while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital.
The late comedian skyrocketed to fame through TikTok and Instagram with his spot-on impersonations of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the 2022 General Election.
He skillfully mimicked the former DP’s speech pattern, attire, complete with a fake belly and oversized suits, walk, and catchphrases.
Gachagua mourned the comedian as a resilient young man who used comedy to communicate creative messages to Kenyans.
“Mr KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts.
“I send my deepest sympathies to his family and his friends at this difficult moment,” Gachagua mourned.
